Aparna Gurumurthy – Bharatanatyam Artist

Aparna Gurumurthy, presently settled in Baltimore, USA is originally from Chennai. She started her Bharatanrityam tutelage under the legendary dancer Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam in her Bharatanrityam dance school “Nrithyodaya” from the age of 9 and completed her arangetram when she was 14. She has completed the following certifications – Nritya Praveshika, Nritya Visharadha and Nritya Sali(Karanas course) from Nrithyodaya. Later She has also been a teaching staff in her dance school for 5 years during which time she had an extensive training in Nattuvangam and completed her Nattuvangam Arangetram as well.

She has been an assistant to the teacher for the Bachelors and Masters of Fine Arts(distance education) courses offered by Nrithyodaya- Sastra University, Tanjore collaboration. She is proud to mention that even during Pandemic times, She had the chance to learn from her guru virtually and completed a course on learning about the 36 chapters of Natyashstra and a choreography for a Pancharatna Kriti.

She has performed along with her guru in many places across India, Singapore, Malaysia. She has done a few solos for Karthik Fine Arts, Mylapore fine arts and have been a regular performer in Natyanjali festivals at Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Kumbakonam, Chidambaram. She has performed for few TV shows like Jaya TV’s ” THAKA DHIMI THA”, featured in her Guru’s production of “Meenakshi Kalyanam” for Delhi Doordarshan. She also had the opportunity to be a part in making and performing in the “1000th year celebration of Tanjore Big temple” where 1000 dancers performed at the same time under her guru’s choreography. She presently runs a dance school called “Nritya samarpan” in Baltimore, USA.
