MusicNamaste introduces an amazing Violin artist Smt. Soumya Ramachandran.
Smt. Soumya Ramachandran is a Post-Graduate in Economics from Bombay University. Soumya hails from a musical family and started training in vocal first from her mother Smt. Raji Subbaraman and then from Smt. Balamani of Mumbai. She learnt to play the violin from the age of seven from Sri.Shivakumar of Mumbai, who is himself an A grade violinist in Carnatic and Hindustani forms of music.
Soumya is currently a B High artiste with All India Radio, Bangalore and Doordarshan. She has received the government of India scholarship for violin both as junior and senior. She has been conferred the title of “SUR MANI” by the Sur Singar Samsad of Mumbai. She received the best violinist award at the Music Academy as well as Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. She has accompanied many popular artistes like Bombay Jayashree, S. Sowmya, Aruna Sayeeram and Mandolin U. Raju to name a few.
Soumya has performed widely in India and overseas. She has won many prizes and medals at various inter-collegiate music festivals. Soumya plays violin for Sthree Thaal Tarang, an all-women ensemble, led by Vidushi Sukanya Ramgopal.
Soumya runs a music school. Sampradhaya where she actively trains many students both in Vocal and Violin.
