Swaathi Rengan – Carnatic Music Artist

Today MusicNamaste introduces a talented and mellifluous artist of Carnatic Music – Swaathi Rengan. Swaathi Rengan had the privilege of undergoing her initial training in Carnatic Music from Smt.Sugantha Sridharan (Disciple of Late Shri Ramanathapuram C,S. Sankara Sivam Baghavathar ) for seven years and the tutelage and able guidance by Kalaimamani Smt.S.Rajeswari for the past 5 years who has groomed her as a performer. Currently she is undergoing advanced training from Shri T.R. Vasudevan.

Swaathi was born into a family of no musical lineage. Swaathi’s inspiration to learn music was mainly drawn especially from her grand mother who was a keen music enthusiast since her childhood. The spark in this artist was realized at a very early age by her grand mother. Swaathi was introduced to Carnatic classical music at the early age of five under the tutelage of Smt. Sugandha Sridharan, who was a disciple of the legendary Late Ramanathapuram C.S. Sankara Sivan Baghavathar. Swaathi was a keen learner right from her childhood.

A keen participant in music competitions held in various venues in Chennai she won many accolades almost every year. She won the Prestigious GNB Award in 2002, held at the Narada Gana Sabha. Subsequently she has won many first Prizes including Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Trichy (2008). Sri Sastha Seva Sangam  (2002 to 2006) and the Harikesanjali Award for two consecutive years 2014/2015. It was during one of these competitions that Kalaimamani Smt.S. Rajeswari a renowned music teacher offered to teach advanced music to Swaathi who pursued it with equal devotion.

  • Thirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, T Nagar in the year 2015
  • Performed on Ugadi at VasanthaMandapam, Chromepet in the year 2015
  • Shri Sastha Seva Sangam Annual Celebration – 2017

Accolades:

  • Won the GNB prestigious award from Narada Gana Sabha (2002 )
  • Won the first prize for Six consecutive years from Sastha Seva Sangam (2000-06)
  • Won the first prize from Trichy Rasika Ranjini Sabha  (2008)
  • Won the first prize for two consecutive years from Harikeshanjali Trust (2014, 2015, 2016)
  • Was second runner Up in MS Voice 2016, conducted by SARIGAMA – Hindu
