Healing Dhanvantari Shlokas – Lyrics, meaning and audio

The hindu God of Dhanvantari, is a form of Lord Vishnu, and praying to his energies is believed to bring in good health. Lord Dhanvantari is a deity in Hinduism who is considered to be  the god of Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine in India. He is often depicted as having four hands, carrying a conch, a discus, a leech, and a pot of Amrita (nectar of immortality). Lord Dhanvantari is believed to have emerged during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) by the gods and demons, holding the pot of Amrita. He is revered as the divine physician and healer, and his blessings are sought for good health and well-being.

Chant 1:

Om Namo Bhagavate Maha Sudarshanaya

Vasudevaaya Dhanvantaraye

Amrutha kalasha Hastaaya

Meaning:

We bow down and pray to Lord Dhanvantri, called as Sudarshana Vasudeva Dhanvantari, he holds in his hands, the Kalasha or pot filled with Amrutha – nectar of immortality… He destroys all fears and all diseases. The lord and protector of three worlds, an incarnate of Lord Vishnu in the form of Dhanvantari, the ultimate physician holding the wheel of medicine, we bow down to you.

Dadhadamruta ghaTam
Charu dorbhi chaturbhih

Sookshma svacchati hridayaam sukha

Kaalaam bodo jvalaangam

nikhila gada vanam

Meaning:

Salutations to Lord Dhanvantari, who is holding a conch, a disc, a leech and a pot of divine nectar (amruta). In whose heart shines a clear blaze of light, that also radiates around his head and lotus eyes. One whose body is splendid on the dark blue water, one who is wearing yellow cloth, and one who by his mere play, destroys all diseases like a huge forest fire. Dhanvantari is the God of Ayurveda.
